LAHORE: The Waris Mir Foundation has published a book titled ‘Waris Mir Kahani’ on the death anniversary of the country’s noted journalist and writer. His death anniversary falls on July 9.

The 287-page book is primarily a compilation of articles about Waris Mir by prominent columnists, intellectuals, writers and political activists, which is a testimony to his struggle in the hard times of dictatorship, especially during the dark era of Gen Ziaul Haq, says a press release.

The book dwells on Waris Mir’s role as a teacher, journalist and intellectual, and describes him more as a movement than a man.

Besides being a writer and journalist, Waris Mir was chairman of the Punjab University’s Journalism Department.

Prominent among those whose articles form a part of the book are Habib Jalib, Bushra Rehman, Karar Hussain, Mahmood Mirza, Ahmed Bashir, Asma Jahangir, Farooq Haider Maududi, Mujibur Rehman Shami, Ataul Haq Qasmi, Nazir Naji, Sohail Warraich, Abbas Athar, Khaled Ahmed, Aitzaz Ahsan, Afzal Touseef, Rukhsana Noor, Anwer Kudwai, Javed Chaudhry, Hamid Mir, Raja Anwer, Mehdi Hasan, Qazi Javed, Irshad Haqqani, Tanveer Qaisar Shahid, Munnoo Bhai and Hasan Nisar.
