THIS refers to a June 26 letter in which the writer compares Dawn’s front-page picture (June 14) with Guantanamo Bay. The picture may have conveyed some discomfort to the writer. I respect the views expressed. However, my views are as follows:

The fact we as a nation are facing an onslaught of terrorism at least for the last 15 years. The enemies are both internal and external.

Enemy agencies have developed local sleeper cells to operate under their instructions as and when they choose to attack and kill our law enforcement personnel and civilians, including women and children.

This is guerrilla warfare on innocent people. The ruthlessness of enemy operators is beyond the imagination of civil society. The victims’ pictures are neither printed nor aired.

The example given by the writer comparing Dawn’s front-page picture to Guantanamo Bay is unjustified in the above context. We are proud of such genuine pictures, as these serve as a deterrent to terrorists, bombers, kidnappers, and ethnic and sectarian killers.
