LAHORE: PML-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain said Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief Altaf Hussain should approach a British court against the BBC report as he himself did in 1991 and won the case against a British newspaper for publishing incorrect news.

“[The British newspaper] which is in no way less important as compared to the BBC published wrong news against me for getting bank loans written off; we filed a case in a British court and the newspaper had on its front page denied its own story and published an apology to our entire family and it had to pay all expenses of the case,” he said on Wednesday.

Shujaat said during a previous tenure of Nawaz Sharif, the BBC had broadcast a story about the premier and Ishaq Dar regarding money laundering on which the PML-Q had advised Sharif to approach the court. He said he wanted to advise Altaf Hussain to immediately file a case against the BBC to prove his innocence and end the ambiguity.

Earlier, Shujaat attended funeral prayers of former minister of state Ghias Ahmad Mela at his native village in Sargodha. He met the deceased’s father, sons and retired General Saleem Mela and offered his condolences to them. Dr Khalid Ranjha also accompanied Shujaat to the funeral.
