Sharif’s visit disappoints MQM

KARACHI: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) termed Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s visit to Karachi on Wednesday ‘disappointing’ and said it was regrettable that he showed a 'lack of interest' in solving the basic problems of the city.

In a statement, the MQM coordination committee said there was hope that the prime minister would announce some real relief measures for the people of Karachi to save them from the menace of loadshedding and water shortage, but he made no such announcement.

It said the prime minister did not even bother to visit any hospital to inquire after the heatstroke patients.

“This attitude of the Sindh and federal governments with a city which generates 70 per cent of the country’s revenue is not only regrettable but discriminatory,” the statement said, adding: “It will increase the already existing sense of deprivation among the people of Karachi.”

The basic problems of the city cannot be solved without eliminating crime, extortion and bribery. The PM knows Karachi is spinning it's wheels and that these are people he can't work with. What should he tell those men he knows are the problem?

Be it the Prime Minister, the Chief Minister of Sindh, or the Pir in London.(Altaf Hussain) they can only provide lip services, as these individuals are not sincere leaders. It is time, the public wakes up from its slumber, and stops voting them to power. It is time for a new set of honorable leaders to step up to the plate.

May be Mqm is one part of the problem.But PM ,Sindh Govt and Federal govt. are also not taking necessary steps for the development of the city. Just paying a visit to just announce some projects is what Nawaz Sharif does. Didn't they announced circular railway & then backed off. What is the issue with them that they cannot revive circular railway with already existing infrastructure. I just need to make a point that Karachi's issue cannot be solved merely dealing with Mqm and related issues.Its the inability and ill will of Federal , provincial and local govt (if any) to plan , execute overall development of this 12 biggest city of the world in terms of population.

While the city is bilstering people are dying likes insects. The MQM as usual shedding crocodile tears. When they have their beloved Zardari as President and Gilani and Raja as PMs did they bothered to look at Karachi. It is better for both MQM and PPP to see the clear writing on wall. No more Sindh or Mohajir Cards

Hollow, meaningless and ad hoc. That's the only way this announcement can be described. These piece meal measures at the price of improvements in Karachi's administrative and governance structure are useless. The blame lies on mqm too who instead of focusing on structural issues, complain incessantly about trifles.

interesting comments...don't we thing the Karachiates should take the matter in their own hands and put right genuine people in power...No one is going to solve your problem unless you quit being the victims... At time i think Karachi is being punished for not being the sons of the soil... The country main stream political parties are biased and wont give a damn. The entire city is suffering from depression, desperation and frustration and that is the worst tragedy: when you are the victim of depression, not only do you feel utterly helpless and abandoned by the country, you also know that very few people can understand, or even begin to believe, that life can be this painful. we can be the victims or survivors it is all about the mind set..
