For Kangana Ranaut, Rani is a name that's stuck.

After her turns as Revolver Rani and the unforgettable Rani from Queen, she is now rumoured to have been roped in for the Rani of Jhansi biopic. What's more, she may be starring opposite British actor Hugh Grant!

According to NDTV, director Ketan Mehta (Mangal Pandey) hopes to cast Grant as the Rani's nemesis General Hugh Rose. Rani of Jhansi, whose real name was Rani Lakshmibai, was a prominent figure during the 1857 War of Independence. Rani defended Jhansi against the forces of the General who stormed the city in April 1858.

If Grant signs on to the biopic, this will be his second Indian film. Back in 1988, he starred in La Nuit Bengali, opposite Supriya Pathak, Shabana Azmi and Soumitra Chatterjee. That film was based on Romanian writer Mircea Eliade's semi-autobiographical account of a fabled relationship with Bengali author Maitreyi Devi.

The biopic begins filming next year.
