KARACHI: An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC-2) on Friday handed over Muttahida Qaumi Movement's (MQM) Rabita Committee member Amir Khan to the Azizabad police on a one-week physical remand.

Security personnel had arrested more than 60 people including Amir Khan on March 11 during a raid conducted at the party's nine-zero headquarters.

On March 13, rangers told courts that Khan will be kept on a 90-day preventive detention for question.

Yesterday, the rangers handed over Khan to the police, who presented him at ATC-2 today. The police contended that Khan confessed before a Joint Investigation Team that he was in charge of the Khursheed Memorial Hall area at nine-zero, adding that he was sheltering the people suspects there.

The Azizabad police had registered a First Information Report (FIR) on rangers' complaint. After both sides presented their arguments in today's hearing, the court handed over Khan to the police.

A large number of supporters and some Rabita Committee members were present on court premises and sloganeered.

Meanwhile, rangers released majority of the suspects that were initially kept for 90 days on preventive detention.
