LAHORE: An official of the Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) with an independent engineer will go to France for the pre-shipment inspection of machinery to be installed at two landfill sites at Lakhudero.

The machinery will be used to dump the waste and generate gas. It will also produce electricity in the future.

A senior company official told Dawn on Monday two more such lots would be approved in the next meeting of LWMC board of directors. He said similarly another two landfill sites would also be approved.

About the expected generation of gas and electricity, the LWMC official said they would have to assess the quantity and quality of the waste.

UNDERPASSES: City underpasses along Canal Road are being remodeled and the quarters concerned have decided to conduct a topographic survey prior to the launch of the project.

A spokesman for the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) said in a statement besides remodeling of underpasses, a new underpass would also be constructed at Chaubucha Phattak between Dharmapura and Mughalpura underpasses.

Also, the LDA sold its five commercial plots for Rs19.79 million on Monday through an open auction. The maximum bid was offered for commercial plot No 13, situated in Fruits and Vegetables Market, Allama Iqbal Town. The 3 marla and 25 sqft plot was auctioned for Rs5.05 million.

SUSPENSION: Electricity supply will remain suspended in various localities due to 11KV lines in connection with construction work on the dualisation of

road from LOS to Multan Road.

The affected areas include Fateh Sher Road, Rustam Park, Nonarian, Union Park, Multan Road, Zubair Park and Jinnah Colony, according to officials.

CDGL: The City District Government of Lahore (CGDL) on Monday directed all town municipal administrations to intensify dengue surveillance in the metropolis.

According to a CDGL’s spokesman, towns have also been asked to keep city graveyards, tyre shops, construction sites and parks under dengue surveillance. Meanwhile the price control magistrates on Saturday got 32 shopkeepers arrested for overcharging.
