KHAR: A soldier was killed when suspected militants attacked an FC checkpost from across the Afghan border in Ghakhi area of Mamond tehsil, on Sunday, official sources said.

Political administration and security officials confirmed the incident which occurred some 45km north of Khar. Security personnel manning the checkpost fired back, forcing the attackers to flee.

Meanwhile, elders of Mamond tribe expressed concern over growing attacks from across the border. They urged security forces to take measures to prevent such attacks or else they would themselves take up arms to deal with the situation.

They said attacks from across the border were causing unrest and creating panic among local people.

In another incident, a local tribesman was killed by a landmine in his fields in Khazana area of Khar.

The man was identified as Akhtar Gul.
