LAHORE: The Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) approved on Friday six development schemes worth Rs1.3 billion.

These schemes were approved in the 45th meeting of the PDWP of the current fiscal year 2014-15 presided over by Planning and Development Board Chairman Muhammad Irfan Elahi.

According to a spokesman, the schemes approved included the third-party evaluation of literacy projects (PC-II) worth Rs18m, hiring of consultant firm for survey/estimation for reconstruction of dangerous buildings of schools in Punjab (PC-II) for Rs31m, security measures of Nishtar Park Sports Complex, Lahore, for Rs232m, registration of geographical indications (4th Revision) for Rs79m, urban sewerage scheme for PP-33 (Islampura, Zafar Colony, Qartaba Town, Johar Colony, Sultan Town, Shirazi Park, Mujahid Colony, Ali Town, Gillwala) and localities of PP-34 (Yousaf Park, Aziz Colony, Bashir Colony, Nawab Colony, Chak 43-NB Jinnah Colony, New Satellite Town W,X,&Y Blocks) Sargodha City for Rs390m and purchase of land for establishment of 2.55MW coal power plants at M-3 Industrial City Faisalabad for Rs450m.

Provincial Secretary Waseem Ajmal Chaudhry, members of the board and secretaries concerned attended the meeting.

Meanwhile, the Planning and Development Department announced postponing the launch of ‘Punjab Growth Strategy 2018’ which was scheduled for May 9 (today) in the wake of the helicopter crash and loss of precious lives near Gilgit.

DIRECTION: The divisional administration has directed the City District Government of Lahore (CDGL), Lahore Development Authority (LDA), Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa), Traffic Engineering and Planning Authority (Tepa), town administrations, Cantonment Boards, etc. to take it on board in writing while starting construction work regarding any development scheme in the city.

“The core objective of the decision is to set a good precedent of coordination among all the nation building departments. The departments must inform us in writing before starting construction work in Lahore and its adjoining districts of Kasur, Sheikhupura and Nankana,” Lahore Commissioner Abdullah Khan Sumbal said while presiding over a meeting of planning and coordination committee here on Friday. He sought expediting the pace of work on various ongoing development schemes in Lahore and adjoining districts.

CDGL: Various price control magistrates ordered the arrest of 33 shopkeepers for overcharging and hoarding. They also imposed a fine of about Rs100,000 on several others in this regard.

Meanwhile, the CDGL’s public health department claimed to have killed 160 stray dogs in various towns of the city through gunshots and poisonous food. On the other the CDGL has also sought intensifying the ongoing in/outdoor dengue surveillance activities in the city.
