HYDERABAD: A team of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) officers on Friday collected Liaquat University Hospital’s records relating to the purchase and disposal of medicines worth millions of rupees during the period 2007-2013.

LUH medical superintendent Dr Rafiq Khokhar told Dawn on Friday the record had been handed over to NAB team as per a request made earlier by it and in line with the ensuing correspondence between the two sides over the past seven months.

“They are inquiring into alleged irregularities/malpractices with regard to the procurement of medicines by the hospital management during the period,” he said. The inquiry was initiated on a report and recommendations of a three-member committee of the health department, he added.

The committee in its set of recommendations had called for a special investigation by relevant agency, such as NAB, to be started immediately against former medical superintendents holding the charge from 2007 to early 2013.
