LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Tuesday nullified the appointment of Punjab University Law College Principal Dr Shazia Qureshi as professor and law faculty dean.

PU Law College’s assistant professors Samee Ozair, Javed Sami and Shumaila Gul had challenged the varsity’s selection board decision to promote Dr Shazia Qureshi as an associate professor.

They had submitted that Dr Qureshi was promoted in violation of rules.

Advocate Khurram Saeed and PU Legal Adviser Malik Awais Khalid argued before Justice Mansoor Ali Shah that Dr Qureshi was posted professor under the criteria which had been in vogue since 2000 for appointment and promotion of PU faculty members.

The counsel submitted that even the petitioners themselves were appointed under the same rules and regulations.

The PU lawyer also submitted the record of its 800 faculty members appointed following the “same rules and regulations”.

After hearing the arguments of both sides, Justice Shah declared appointment of Dr Shazia Qureshi as professor and dean faculty of law as illegal.
