FAISALABAD: A case has been registered against eight policemen of the Counter Terrorism Department on charges of thrashing a student and trying to kidnap him from the Government College University, Faisalabad.

The case has been registered under sections 148, 149, 365 and 511 of the PPC on the complaint of GCUF students’ affairs director Dr Nadeem Sohail.

Submitting an application to the Gulberg police, Dr Sohail said eight people namely Bilal, Nofal Husain, Umer, Asadur Rehman, Zahid, Umer Kaleem, Usman and Haider Ali came to the gate No 2 of the university on Tuesday and showed their CTD cards to enter the campus. They told the guards that they had come here for some piece of work.

After entering the university, the CTD employees started thrashing Sajawal, a student of the economics department.

The situation created panic on the campus and the administration had to suspend educational activities.

The GCUF sources said the CTD employees had come to the university as Sajawal had allegedly misbehaved with his class fellow who happened to be the sister of a CTD personnel.

They said the university administration was well aware of the conduct of the student and preferred to remain silent as he reportedly belonged to an influential family.

A university official requesting anonymity told Dawn that a tussle among students had led to the scuffle and a student had called the CTD personnel.

He said the guards had managed to overpower the intruders and handed them over to the Gulberg police.

All suspects have been sent on judicial remand.
