KARACHI: The Majlis-i-Wahdat-i-Muslimeen (MWM) on Friday urged the government to play the role of a mediator between Saudi Arabia and Yemen by showing respect to the resolution passed by the parliament, which also reflected sentiments of the masses.

MWM leaders Hasan Hashmi, Ali Hussain Naqvi, Allama Ali Anwar and Allama Mubashir Hasan made this demand while delivering Friday sermons at mosques in the city.

They said the reported statement of Saudi defence minister Mohammed Bin Salman was an ‘insult’ to Pakistan and its people. Pakistan was an independent country whose sovereignty could not be purchased.

The religious leader opined that those who were trying to portray the Yemen war as sectarian should study the history of Yemen, where the Houthis had ruled for years.

They said there was no threat to sacred places in Saudi Arabia from the Houthis in Yemen.
