PESHAWAR/CHITRAL: The All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) of former military ruler Gen retired Pervez Musharraf has urged the people to support the party candidates in the forthcoming local government elections so that they could play their role in development of the province.

The demand was made by APML provincial president Aurangzeb Khan Mohmand while speaking at a news conference at Peshawar Press Club here on Sunday.

He said that the people had voted Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf to power on the slogan of ‘change’ but it had failed to materialise its manifesto so far. He said the crime ratio, especially the extortion, target killings, kidnapping for ransom and street crimes had increased manifold during the tenure of PTI because its leaders were unable to apprehend the situation.

He also expressed anguish over the soaring prices of daily use items and said it reflected total failure of both the provincial and federal governments.

Referring to the holding of local government elections, the APML leader said that the credit went to former president Pervez Musharraf who introduced the new style of local bodies to empower the communities. On the occasion, a number of people belonging to various political parties announced joining the APML.

Meanwhile, APML and PPP have entered into an electoral alliance for the local bodies’ polls in Chitral.

The announcement was made during a joint press conference by the APML district president Shahzada Khalid Pervaiz and PPP president Salim Khan on Sunday. Hundreds of the workers of both the parties were present on the occasion.

They said that the alliance was need of the hour as people of Chitral had reposed their confidence in them as incumbent MNA from Chitral was from APML and the MPAs from PPP.
