LAHORE: The Civil Lines police registered a case against some 300 protesters, among them seven nominated, for assembling on The Mall and blocking traffic here on Friday.

A large number of protesters from Nankana Sahib reached Lahore and blocked The Mall to protest against the police for releasing two murder suspects.

The protesters shouted slogans against the DPO and the Nankana RPO.

Civil Lines SHO Abid Rasheed told reporters that a case was registered against protesters under MPO 1960 and Section 144 which states that an assembly of five or more persons on The Mall is illegal.

Protesters said their two relatives Pervaiz and Rasheed had been killed by rivals over a land dispute on Jan 23 in Jamalpur, Nankana Sahib. They alleged that police officers released both nominated murder suspects after taking bribe.

Traffic on The Mall got choked when protesters started marching towards the Punjab Assembly to lodge their protest. A police contingent started dispersing protesters from outside the Punjab Assembly building.

The protesters dispersed when Nankana MPA Sahib Kashif Buriyal and the RPO assured the them that action would be taken against the policemen.
