LAHORE: The Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) approved on Monday construction of a girls hostel at King Edward Medical University, Lahore, at a cost of Rs272.695 million, besides 14 other development schemes.

The total estimated cost of the approved schemes will be Rs23.054 billion. These schemes were approved in the 40th meeting of PDWP of current fiscal year 2014-15, held here.

Planning and Development Secretary Waseem Ajmal Chaudhry, members of the P&D Board, provincial secretaries concerned and other senior representatives of the relevant departments also attended the meeting.

According to a spokesman, the approved schemes include 2x55 MW (gross) coal fired power plant at M-3 Industrial City, Faisalabad, for Rs15.461bn, development of infrastructure in industrial estates of Small Industries Estates, Sialkot, Gujranwala-I, Gujranwala-II and Bahawalpur for Rs226.636m, feasibility study of a pilot project for Inland Waterways Transport (IWT) in Punjab for the pilot reaches between Attock-Daudkhel and Daudkhel-Taunsa (PC-II) for Rs53m, widening/improvement of road from Kadhala to Malki via Aach to Ghulam Chowk to Kharana, Kharian tehsil (16.27km), Gujrat for Rs277.478 million, upgrading of mechanical system for sewerage and drainage services in Gujranwala (revised) for Rs1.165bn, implementation of master plan phase-III, Lahore General Hospital (revised) in Rs730.601m, construction of new block at press law building in Punjab Civil Secretariat for Rs485.694m, Lahore Ring Road (Package-3C) construction of underpass at Karol Ghatti on Ring Road, Lahore, for Rs583.049m, Lahore Ring Road (Package-12A) construction of underpass at Bhaini Road (revised) for Rs540.897m, widening/improvement of Narowal-Shakargarh Road (40.24 km) in (3rd revised) for Rs856.988m, rehabilitation/widening, improvement of road from Mandi Kamonke to Mandi Siranwali via Nandpur Soonper Mandi Wahando, Thapnala Dera Noor Alam, Danser Bala Gilgithi (43km) in Gujranwala district for Rs414.657m, rehabilitation/improvement/widening of dual carriageway between Khushab and Jauharabad Road (7.65 km) in Khushab district for Rs460.304m, widening/improvement of road from Rangpur Chowk, Munda, Daira Din Pannah to Taunsa More up to Pull Qamber (72.50 kms) in Muzaffargarh district (revised) for Rs679.590m, widening/improvement of Palace Road from Pull Dari Sangi to UAE Palace (12km), RY Khan, for Rs846.338m and construction of a girls hostel at KEMU for Rs272.695m.
