RAWALPINDI: Since the gas connection to Aabpara police station was disconnected due to non-payment of gas bills, these law enforcers acquired an illegal connection to supply gas to the staff houses.

The gas connection to the police station was disconnected on June 6, 2014, after a bill of Rs79,240 was not paid.

Gas supply to the central control room of the capital police, offices of the senior superintendent of police and deputy superintendent of police city circle were also disconnected.

A police official, requesting anonymity, said that soon after the connection was snapped, an illegal connection was obtained from the main supply line and the police mess located on the premises of the Aabpara police station remained operative.

Supply to the police station had been disconnected due to non-payment

In addition to the police officials, a number of Frontier Constabulary personnel housed in the barracks at the station eat at the police mess.

The police official also revealed that gas heaters at all police offices at the premises of the Aabpara station remained operative through the winter season and water heaters were also supplied gas from the illegal connection.

When Superintendent of Police Headquarters Rana Tahir, who is responsible for taking care of police housing and logistics was contacted, he said the issue was not in his knowledge.

However, the station house officer at Aabpara acknowledged the existence of such a connection but said the issue would be resolved in two days.

Recently, Inspector General of Police Islamabad directed all police stations to submit a complete report on the availability of gas, electricity, telephones, photocopiers and fax machines at the stations.

Following the IGP’s orders, the Aabpara police station submitted a report which noted that while all other facilities were available at the police station, gas supply had been disconnected.

Contrary to the report submitted to the IGP, the Aabpara police station did have gas available albeit through an illegal connection.

Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited spokesman was not available to comment on the issue.
