KARAK: ANP provincial general secretary Aimal Wali Khan on Thursday said Muttahida Qaumi Movement was a ‘terrorist’ organisation and therefore, the government should ban its activities.

He was speaking at the workers’ convention here.

The ANP leader said if an across-the-board action was not taken against criminals in Karachi, then normalcy would not return to the port city.

He said the execution of outlaw Saulat Mirza, who was allegedly a former MQM worker, should be delayed so that all those behind violence in Karachi over the years should be brought into justice in light of his disclosures.

Aimal opposed delimitations through the local government department on the directions of the PTI government and said the exercise should be carried out by the Election Commission in line with a court verdict.

Claims it will sweep upcoming local body elections

ANP parliamentary leader in the provincial assembly Sardar Hussain Babak, former provincial minister Arbab Ayub Jan, provincial joint secretary Khursheed Khattak and district president Sajjad Ahmad also spoke on the occasion.

They criticised the PTI-led provincial government and said those who secured vote from Pashtuns in the name of changing their socioeconomic conditions had abandoned them.

The speakers said unfortunately, those who claimed to bring about change within 90 days for forming government had to deliver even in two years.

They said Rs86 billion funds lapsed last year showing the government’s incompetence.

The speakers said the ANP government had done record development work in the province besides establishing 11 universities and that if voted to power, the party would set up a women’s university and medical and engineering universities in the district.

They said ANP would sweep the upcoming local body elections. A large number of ANP workers attended the event and demanded establishment of an oil refinery in the district.

POWER SUSPENDED: The Peshawar Electric Supply Company suspended electric supply to eight villages in Karak district for nonpayment of bills.

Among these villages are Jama, Andi Karak, Dhand Eidalkhel, Deela Mela, Mithawala, ???

Pesco sub-divisional officer Tariq Khan told Dawn here on Thursday that electric supply to the villages would remain suspended until local residents would pay dues.

He said the supply of electricity to the people not paying bills had been halted on the directives of the Pesco chief.

The SDO also said the crackdown on power theft and public awareness campaign for regular bill payment would continue.
