FAISALABAD: The district bar association has warned of action against the chief traffic officer (CTO), the Lyallpur Town SP and a warden if a case registered against the lawyers is not quashed.
The bar issued the warning on Thursday in the backdrop of a case registered against 10 lawyers and some other people for subjecting Lorry Adda traffic sector in-charge Faisal Usman to torture on March 11. He was thrashed for issuing a ticket to a vehicle owned by the brother of a lawyer, Khwaja Rehan, for wrong parking.
On March 16, the Civil Lines police had registered a case against lawyers.
On Thursday, a press release issued by the bar association, said it had sent a letter to the chief minister that a clash between the Faisalabad police and the DBA was possible if no action was taken against Chief Traffic Officer Muhammad Masoom, Lyallpur Town SP and warden Usman.
It claimed the case registered against lawyers was bogus because the issue had been settled, however, the case had been registered with the connivance of the two police officers -- CTO and Lyallpur Town SP.
A police officer, requesting anonymity, told Dawn that registration of a case was the fundamental right of the warden. He said it was true that a group of lawyers had thrashed him publicly and then sought an excuse from him at the CTO office.
He said police would not confront the lawyers on the issue and the DBA should also support the rule of law rather than going for any kind of confrontation.
