KARACHI: Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah on Thursday admitted that the provincial government’s performance in health care sector was not as good as it should have been but said his administration was continuously making efforts to improve things.

“We have a mammoth Rs44 billion budget for the health care, which could be greatly helpful to serve people in a highly productive way and we are making things better with each passing year,” said Mr Shah while speaking at a programme for the distribution of ice-lined refrigerators organised by the Peoples Primary Healthcare Initiative (PPHI) at a local hotel.

The PPHI, a non-governmental organisation which runs part of government health facilities across the province, donated 332 ice-lined refrigerators, 57 of them solar powered, to the expanded programme on immunisation in Sindh.

The audience was informed that ice-lined technology could keep refrigerators cool at minus temperatures for 120 hours during power breakdowns.

Mr Shah said the PPHI would launch polio campaigns in Dadu and Badin districts and the government was improving security measures for polio volunteers across the province.
