Bike maker slashes prices

KARACHI: Atlas Honda Limited (AHL) has reduced the price of 70cc bikes.

The CD-70cc and CD-70cc Dream are now priced at Rs63,500 and Rs67,500 as compared to Rs69,900 and Rs73,500 respectively.

However, it has slightly increased the price of CG-125 Standard model by Rs400 to Rs102,900. The price of other 100-125cc models has remained unchanged.

Chinese bike assemblers have not reduced prices. Chairman Association of Pakistan Motorcycle Assemblers (Apma) Mohammad Sabir Shaikh, who represents Chinese bike assemblers, said that since the dollar had been trading between Rs100-102, all Chinese bike assemblers have been working under pressure.

He said further reduction in Honda bike price may give tough time to Chinese bike assemblers.

So far the Chinese bike makers are not in a position to decrease prices. Sabir claimed many small units had already closed down due to low profit margins.

He said the scenario for high engine power bikes would change in the next one to two years as new Japanese bike assembler is also entering the market this year.

What about quality of bike? It is felt old bikes are better than newly manufactured.

Now if local car manufacturers could do the same and quit robbing us as yen is trading way down against rupee, dollar has been stable for a while now and interest rates has been lowered as well which means they have access to additional capital at much lower rates. Indus and Atlas, please koi sharam kha lo...............

Pakistan has to produce vehicles from scratch. i.e. Pakistan has to do research, in all fields of automobile engineering, plastics, polymers, rubbers, glass, electrical engineering, heat engines , Metallurgy, design, quality control, manufacture, testing, innovation, unless we make the effort, others will only spoon feed us, and we pay for the spoon feeding. Others have started from zero, and so do we, otherwise we will be where we are for the next 67 years.

@Burjor Rustomji We claim to design and build fighter jets, drones, nuclear missiles, yet have to import the parts for cars and motorbikes, to assemble locally. I am perplexed by this discrepancy. If we can replicate our military production prowess in the auto industry, no doubt we can be the worlds leading bike and car manufacturer.
