KARACHI: Pakistan International Airline (PIA) flight operations in Bangladesh were restored on Monday morning when the first flight after suspension left for Dhaka this morning.

PIA, which has five flights operating in Bangladesh, was suspended on Feb 25 followed by a raid on the station manager's house.

PIA station manager Ali Abbas's house was raided by the Bangladeshi authorities. During questioning, it was revealed that some PIA passengers were involved in currency smuggling on flights from Karachi to Bangladesh. The station manager and his family returned to Pakistan in Feb 25 and PIA flight operations in Bangladesh were suspended on the same day.

After talks and discussions by the foreign ministry, the operations have been restored.

Meanwhile, oil distribution company Shell on Monday said that due to lack of supply from Attock Refinery, there has been a shortage in fuel for PIA flights.

The airline has begun alternate arrangements for fuel at Islamabad airport. According to PIA's spokesman Hanif Raja, the fuel shortage will not affect flight schedules and and flights are being operated normally.
