OKARA: Nine people allegedly beat up on Tuesday the medical superintendent of the additional district headquarters hospital (south) and also held him hostage in his office.

Police said Dr Iftikhar Ahmad Khan was beaten by Farooq, Khalid, alias Goga, and Punnu along with their six other accomplices.

The incident sparked a protest among doctors and paramedics of the hospital who left work in protest at the incident.

Pakistan Medical Association’s Okara President Dr Shahid Dogar and Dr Liaqat Ali Kausar met the district police chief and sought action against the attackers.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Farooq Kamyana has been assigned to arrest the suspects.

Missing woman found dead

A woman missing for two years was found dead in her mother’s house here on Tuesday.

Widowed Naziran Bibi shifted to Mahboob Town of Okara city from Chichawattni four years back. Her daughter, Nabila Bibi, eloped with Asad of Toba Tek Singh, in 2011. Soon, the couple developed differences and Nabila returned to her mother’s.

In 2012, Nabila went missing again and soon after her mother Naziran Bibi also disappeared. On Monday night, Naziran Bibi along with some other women arrived in her home. They smelt odour coming out of the house and found Nabila’s body in a room.

On being alerted, District Police Officer (DPO) Faisal Rana arrived at the scene. The police registered a case against Nabila’s husband Asad Ali, Rafiq, Ramzana and some unidentified people on the report of Nabila’s relative Mahmood.

Naziran Bibi was also taken into custody for interrogation.

Man kills brother

A man, 21, allegedly hammered to death his younger brother, 19, in a fit of rage in D-block on Tuesday.

Police said Hasnain confronted his younger brother, Zohaib, and hit him a hammer in the head. Zohaib died on the spot. A-Division police arrested Hasnain and registered a case.
