LAHORE: Two labourers were killed while another suffered injuries in a roof collapse in Shahdara on Monday.

Rescue teams reached the spot and retrieved the bodies and the injured from the debris.

According to a rescuer, the roof of a matchbox factory’s servant quarter situated at GT Road collapsed due to heavy rain on Sunday night.

He said the rainwater damaged the roof and it fell on three labourers, who were asleep. The labourers were trapped under the debris. Rescuers started the operation and after removing the debris, recovered the bodies of Naseer, 30 and Saifullah, 40. They also rescued Arshad, 40, and shifted him to hospital where his condition was stated to be stable.

In another incident, the roof of a room at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital caved in due to heavy rain.

The hospital admin officer claimed that the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) was empty as the building was in a dilapidated condition and the management had vacated it for reconstruction some weeks back.
