Military courts to hear Shikarpur imambargah blast case: Sharjeel Memon

KARACHI: Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon announced Thursday that the Shikarpur imambargah blast case would be tried in military courts, prompting Shuhada Committee to call off its protests after drawn out negotiations.

Addressing a joint press conference with Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah and Shikarpur Shuhada Committee leader Allama Maqsood Ali Domki, the provincial information minister said that a joint interrogation team (JIT) will be formed to probe the attack on the imambargah which had claimed the lives of more than 60 people.

He further said that a joint operation would be conducted under the supervision of the provincial apex commitee across Sindh, especially in Shikarpur.

Sharjeel Memon added that strict action would be taken against the activities of banned religious organisations and those inciting religious hatred.

Families affected by the Jan 30 carnage at the Shikapur imambargah had began a long march from Shikarpur to Karachi on Feb 15.

Allama Maqsood Ali Domki announced that the Shikarpur Shuhada Committee had decided to call off protests. He thanked the people of Sindh for welcoming the heirs and relatives of the Shikarpur blast victims.

He said that the provincial government had made sincere efforts for the negotiations especially the provincial chief executive who had played an important role in this regard.

He hope that strict action would be taken against terrorists.

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah said that even though the loss of human lives could not be compensated for, yet the provincial government stood by the victims and their heirs to redress their grievances.

He said that problems cannot be resolved through violence and the government had hoped that the imambargah blast issue was resolved in Shikarpur only.

Ammen shaheedi has met Qaim Ali Shah and gave him a list of people involved in Shia killings as well as their hideouts (madressahs).... Let's see if local government really transfers this case to the military court or it will remain a political stunt just to disperse the crowd

According to the procedure being adopted for sending cases to Military courts, as reported in the media, is that the provincial govt decides /chooses the cases ...but then they are first sent to the ministry of interior which carries out its own scrutiny of each case. It appears that it is the ministry which will ultimately decide which case to be sent for trial in military court and which not. Moreover, the ministry takes lot of time in scrutiny because no time frame appears to have been fixed in this respect. Despite the fact that Sindh Govt has agreed to send Shikarpur case to military court one has to keep fingers crossed and wait ..and wait in order to see whether the promise is really fulfilled. At the time of sit ins in Quetta by the Hazara community lots of promises were made by the then federal info minister Kaira saheb but with the passage of time these were conveniently forgotten and nothing was done. Let us hope that this time around the promises are not made just for the sake of convincing the Shohada Commitee to end the sit in.

Long March on foot from Shikarpur to Karachi and just to transfer the case to Military courts. What kind of justice is this. What about the cheques that Sindh government issued to the kins of the martyred which were bounced.

I am willing to bet a million kudos that M.Qadri's case never going to the military courts. Not happening. In a country where ex-judges defending a murderer, and lawyers showering rose petals, and prosecution nowhere to be found just out of fear of their own lives.

When it came to peaceful interior Sindh and unity among Sunnies and Shias then even wicked Government of Sindh started to take action. If Gov't does not do anything practical then Sindhis are united to go ahead and hunt terrorists & wipe them out from Sindhis will also not allow pro-terrorist Moulvies n Wicked Clerics to produce differences in Sindh by Hate Speeches from pro-terrorist mosques.

Pakistan needs leaders who can pull up their sleeves and get to work solving nation's problems. Many collecting big salary and confusing public with useless speeches are dangerous. Furthermore, many useless officials instead of following two-term rules, continue hogging the same position collecting dsalary and perks. A nation like Pakistan cannot afford dead woods.

All the pending cases should be handled by Military courts regardless if killing was done by terrorist or by government (like in Model Town ,Lahore), we don't expect any swift and fair justice will be given by civilian courts and corrupt government's leaders.

@KhalidS If a guard (Qadri) can shoot and kill who he is guarding, then why can not the guards guarding Qadri can shoot and kill him? Is that not simple? Qadri took the law in his own hands. Did he not? Give him the taste of his own action. Case close.
