KARACHI: A senior leader of the Majlis-i-Wahdat-i-Muslimeen (MWM) on Saturday called upon the government to take effective measures to curb increasing sectarian attacks and get rid of those who were orchestrating and executing such attacks.

Speaking at a press conference at his office, Allama Amin Shaheedi, the MWM’s deputy secretary general, demanded that the government extend the scope of the Operation Zarb-i-Azb to Sindh and Punjab where “terrorists have their safe havens”.

Referring to the Friday attack on a Peshawar Imambargah in which 20 people were killed, he said that the federal government was responsible for such attacks as many precious lives were lost because of its procrastination.

He demanded protection for the life and property of the people belonging to the Shia community and lamented the government’s continuous delay in taking steps to prevent sectarian attacks.
