KARACHI: Two suspected gangsters linked with Lyari gangs were gunned down in an encounter in Mochko early on Sunday morning, according to police.

A police party raided a place in Kutchhi Mohalla in Mowachh Goth at 5am after receiving a tip-off about the gangsters’ presence. The moment they saw policemen, they resorted to firing but both of them were gunned down when police fired back, claimed Mochko SHO Chaudhry Saleem.

The bodies were shifted to the Civil Hospital Karachi for a post-mortem examination.

“The dead gangsters were hit men associated with the Comrade Shiraz gang,” claimed the officer.

They were involved in the murder of five men including a boxer, two policemen of the Crime Investigation Department, gang rape and murder of a couple and they had recently killed a hairdresser in Mochko over suspicion he was a police informer, said the SHO.

Man held for killing father, brother

Police arrested on Sunday a young man after he had allegedly killed his father and brother in the Sukhan area in Cattle Colony, according to police officials.

Mohammed Asif gunned down his father, Haji Ismail, 55, and brother, Mohammed Saleem, 30, over a dispute over property, said police.

Police later arrested the suspect along with the weapon used in the double murder.

Asif was jobless and wanted a share in the property but his father opposed over fears he would sell it off, said Sukhan SHO Mohammad Mithal.

The slain Haji Ismail had six sons and five daughters who were all married and he lived with his two sons in a double-storey building near Baber Kanta. The family hailed from Punjab.
