RAWALPINDI: Pakistan on Monday conducted a successful flight test of the indigenously developed Air Launched Cruise Missile (ALCM) “Ra’ad”, said an Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) press release.
The Ra’ad missile, with a range of 350 km, enables Pakistan to achieve 'strategic standoff capability' on land and at sea.
“Cruise Technology” is extremely complex and has been developed by only a few countries in the world. The state of the art Ra’ad Cruise Missile with stealth capabilities is a low altitude, terrain hugging missile with high maneuverability; can deliver nuclear and conventional warheads with pin point accuracy.
Director General Strategic Plans Division, Lieutenant General Zubair Mahmood Hayat, while congratulating the scientists and engineers on achieving yet another milestone of historic significance, termed it a major step towards strengthening Pakistan’s full spectrum credible minimum deterrence capability. Pakistan’s strategic pursuits are aimed at achieving strategic stability in the region, he said.
He appreciated the technical prowess, dedication and commitment of scientists who contributed whole heartedly to make this launch a success.
He showed his full confidence over operational preparedness of strategic forces including employment and deployment concepts, refinement and training of all ranks in operational and technical domains.
The successful launch has been commended by President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, who have congratulated the scientists and engineers on their outstanding achievement.

Missile program of Pakistan according to international defense experts is years ahead on India. Google search. Now into more tactical, smaller warheads based on tritium tech. India has better PSLV-C 23 technology, all russian made. So this is all about the launch and not about the warhead that is superior. A missile(rocket) going 5000 miles doesn't mean it has a better warhead, it means the rocket with a PSLV tech can go that war. Two completely different things, defense related people understand these things.

Brahmos can undertake surgical and highly accurate strikes at targets located over 500 miles and it can conduct them at supersonic speeds

Pakistan has advanced into miniature nuclear technology. Big Missiles with 5000+kms range were being tested more than 10 years ago(Ghori Shaheen etc)

The range is intentionally kept according to strategy and is by no means a measure of capability. Pakistan has developed long enough range already to reach any part of its immediate enemies.
In any real conflict, the real asset will be the shorter range missiles that allow enemy lesser reaction time. The stealth mode is going to make these missiles very dangerous for anyone drunk on the illusion of power based purely on size and numbers.

Since Pakistan have intermediate range missiles to reach out any corner of India now Pakistan is focusing on BRBM(Battlefield Range Ballistic Missiles). Pakistan have edge in it. These short range missiles are very very effective in any battle(Land, Air, Sea), in cold war and in surgical strikes as well. India on the other hand focusing on long range missiles to reach out north east corner of enemy like china which might be effective against china but useless against Pakistan.

People should compare ra'ad with brahmos, and not ICBMs like Agni.. Theses are two different classes of missiles.
While India now has brahmos deployed in all three commands ( army, navy, air), it'd be seen how long Pak takes to A) deploy the missile in production after the test fire, and B) when will they be able to fire from a submarine (tested by India in 2014).. That will be the real test!

First of all, "Agni" is not a cruise missile, the name of the Indian cruise missile is "BrahMos" and its range is 290 Km (apparently developed with the help of Russia and there is some treaty where countries can't help make missile range for over 300km).
Secondly, all those commenting that we should spend on education, poverty etc, please go and comment on the right forum! Its the army! they will tune up their armor as per the security and strategic needs. Yes, they get their budgets which are way high but if you think this is not the need of the day then you are simply being naive.

5000kms Vs 350kms, its not even a comparison. Having said that... both nations should actually invest money in pulling poor people out of poverty and bring peace. These things are not going to feed people of both nations. Pakistan and my country spend way too much money on buying arms. Our lives would be much better if even a small percentage of it is spent on improving our living standards. People from both sides need to snap out of this obsession. I am not saying we should be great friends, lets just focus on fixing our homes rather throwing stones on each other. We should ask our governments to cut their arms budget and mind their priorities again in favour of public welfare.
Allah or Ram or Jesus or Buddha, I don't care.. all are fine, I just want a happy life and peaceful neighbourhood.

This is good as far the technology is concerned.
However, does Pakistan have the capability to indigenous develop:
- a family car
- Railway engine
- two wheeler
do you want the world to believe that a country which cannot even make a railway engine/two wheeler engine to build a ultra complex cruise missile system?, who are we fooling at? are we just satisfying our ego here?
People need to come out and ask the military research team, to just build a bus or a train engine to help the public. Not this fancy jimmics, which will never be used.
Even if we need to believe, Pakistan built it, where are the protos? what was the earlier versions, why are only the finished products shown always?, this is not the case with other countries.
We need not start believing our own lies :P

Raad is ment for fix installations like air fields and radars and can even reach Delhi to Bombay. This weapon will guarenteed be used in a limited or larger conflict with India. ICBM Agni will not.

Too amused to read the comments, a typical Indo-Pak rivalry at it's peak. Since people here are commenting with their emotions attached with their respective countries hence one should take them lightly.
Few things that could be the extract of the long conversation chain.
Indians proved that they are having much concerns over this news rather than Pakistani who are still seeking for food/health/ electricity/ Fuel/poverty issues from their government rather than this type of news.atleast the number of comments shows that results.
People from both sides are not aware of pros & Cons of the Nuclear War. (Na tum jano na hum magar comment to hum karain gai).
If Pakistan's technology is based over Chinese so do Indian Technology based over Russian so what's the point of comparison.
Pakistan Followed India everytime that's True. From Pakistani perspective, India Show their cards first to dominate in Power game while Pakistan respond afterwards to show only those cards that could be effective to balance the power game. This could also be an Indian tactic to know what Pakistan is capable of in response and so ON :)

Pakistan test fired first cruise in 2005 after that in 2006 India bought Russian cruise missile.
in 2013 India tested its first cruise missile but failed. Then the they tested again in 2014 which they claim was successful.

Pakistani military development is based on a singular threat from India contrary to Indian military development which takes china and other regional countries including pakistan into consideration. Also, there is an offensive and defensive agenda also. India develops and buys medium range technology with china in mind, pakistan on the other hand develops its launch capability in the short to medium range with india in mind, that is why the farthest range of a pakistani missile in no more than 2500 miles, whereas Agni ranges to more than 5000 miles, they cannot use this missile against pakistan with this mileage, obviously. From an offensive vs defensive frame of mind also, we can take into consideration the famous boforce cannons that india bought from switzerland way back in the 90s (there were alegations of corrption in that deal involving rajev gandhi), the distance on these guns was more than 50 miles, whereas the largest guns in pakistna are no more than 15 miles, that is why they call it minimum deterrance. Its a complex calculation for any country and laymen like us can only joke about this, but cannto really understand the dynamics.

India need to change its doctrine about 'Akhund Bharat' and that partition is a historical mistake and can be reverted.
Also with India's role in the beak-up of Pakistan in 1971, in the backdrop, and its role in insurgencies in tribal areas and in Baluchistan, it'll take huge amount of efforts from both countries to come to talking, and engaging terms. India holds the same grievances against Pakistan, notwithstanding the fact that it has actually helped in quashing the Sikh insurgency.

Brahmos is supersonic cruise missile based on Russia's P800 oniks. The name Brahmos is an aggregation of India's River Brahmaputra and Russian river Moskova. That's how indeginous this missile is.
Ra'ad and Brahmos are not even comparable. One is subsonic stealth and the other is a supersonic fire with limited maneuverability.
Ra'ad is similar to Tomahawk.

QUETTA: A Hindu doctor was set free by kidnappers in Quetta after payment of ransom on Sunday night.
Kidnappers released Dr Manoj Kumar in Hazar Ganji area of Quetta. Gunmen had kidnapped Dr Kumar from Quetta's Industrial Police Station area last year on Dec 2.
The kidnappers had demanded a huge amount of ransom for the release of the kidnapped doctor.
However, sources in his family said the doctor was set free after payment of 14 million rupees.
Aetezzaz Goraya, Senior Superintendent of Police Operations Quetta, told reporters that the Hindu doctor was set free after payment of ransom.
Speaking to media representatives after the release, Dr Kumar said, "I do not know where I was kept?"
He said the captors were providing only one meal to him in twenty four hours. "I was set free following payment of ransom," he added.
"I was kept in one small room and I was unaware about the outer world," Dr Kumar said.

Can these cruise missiles be fired against know terrorist targets,,,,much like the way US cruise missiles were fired against Osama in the initial stages of the anti Osama operations?
If so put it to use? US drones are doing an excellent job but is being met with nationalistic opposition,,,,these missiles should to the job? Just thinking out aloud? I don't know anything about these missiles?:):):)

So when I read news about India's successful testing of Agni missile mere few days back I have congratulated wholeheartedly to all the Indians on achieving, yet another great milestone. In all these years I was in an impression that we somehow lagging behind in technology, economic stability and politically from India, and that is true to a huge extent. I was wrong, Pakistani's are different they have huge hearts and high level of tolerance and patience, they can take criticism, which is the reflection of our strong cultural heritage, our learning and teachings. Just for your records gone are the days when countries used to engage in traditional wars. Now, wars are fought on abolishing your culture, economies and spoiling young generations.
