KARACHI: K-Electric, the champions of the 19th Hinopak Trophy KCCA Inter-departmental cricket tournament were feted here the other day.

In a glittering prize-distribution ceremony at the Karachi Club Annexe, K-Electric skipper Mansoor Khan received the winners’ purse of Rs55,000 and the trophy from Kiichiro Utsumi, the chief executive and managing director of Hinopak Motors.

Pakistan Navy, who lost the final at the UBL Sports Complex, got Rs40,000 and the runners-up trophy with skipper Babar Hussain Agha colleting them from the chief guest.

Individual prizes of Rs5,000 were presented to Ijaz Ali Shah of AJWW for being the tournament’s best

batsman, Alam Khurshid Shah of al-Amin Salt (best bowler) and Saud Shakeel of Al-Amin Salt (player-of-the-tournament) while Saad Ali of K-Electric got the award for being man-of-the-match in the final.

Speaking on the occasion, Utsumi pledged his company would continue to support the KCCA is organising this competition in the future as well as play their part in promotion of cricket in the country, particularly in Karachi.

He also extended his best wishes to the Pakistan cricket team for the upcoming World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

Also present on the occasion were Prof Ejaz Ahmed Faruqi, president KCCA, Naushad Riaz, chairman of Hinopak Sports and Recreation Club, M. Touseef Siddiqui, chairman of KCCA tournament committee and tournament secretary Jameel Ahmed.
