LAHORE: The district and sessions judge on Monday acquitted former PML-Q MPA Samina Khawar Hayat in a fake degree case after the prosecution failed to establish its case.

Ms Hayat had filed an acquittal application, pleading the charges against her were baseless and politically motivated.

She said the case had been lying pending for long and the prosecution failed to come up with any cogent evidence.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had filed the case for the recovery of perks and privileges from the MPA after the Supreme Court disqualified her for having a fake BA degree.

The court accepted application of Ms Hayat and discharged her of the case.
