LAHORE: City police on Saturday launched an operation against charity boxes installed by some banned outfits along different roads, and placed at hotels, shops and mosques to collect money.

Civil Lines police have removed 13 such boxes installed at electricity poles, bus stops and shops on The Mall. These boxes belonged to different banned organisations, seeking help from public on the pretext of collecting donations for a some “worthy cause”.

Deputy Inspector General (Operation) Dr Haider Ashraf directed all divisional SPs, DSPs and SHOs to remove all such boxes.

In case of failing to comply with the order, the SHO concerned would be held responsible and action would be taken against him for not removing the donation boxes, the DIG added.

He said without implementation of the National Action Plan (NAP), the menace of terrorism could not be curbed. He apprehended that the donations collected through these boxes could be used for funding terrorists.

The DIG also asked the police officials to ensure that no literature, pamphlets, posters, handbills etc, which might cause hatred and tension among different segments of society, were published and distributed.

He said the police were also looking for the beneficiaries of these donation boxes.
