ISLAMABAD: The government's National Action Plan (NAP) to counter terrorism continues to build momentum on-ground, as latest figures reveal 1,859 suspects have been arrested from all over the country.

The Prime Minister House made data of province-wise arrests public today:

The government reported that 5,487 search operations were conducted in Punjab, 322 in Sindh, 1,223 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 12 in Balochistan and 275 in Islamabad.

In Punjab, 2,837 cases have been registered for misuse of loudspeakers so far, out of which 1,471 have led to arrests.

Security agencies also reportedly arrested 329 people for hate speech from Punjab and 10 from KP.

At least 41 shops were sealed in Punjab for their involvement in promoting hate speech.

An estimated 166,000 Afghan refugees have also been registered in Punjab by the government.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has asked provincial governments to implement NAP in its letter and spirit in order to eradicate terrorism from the country.

Since the lifting of moratorium on the death penalty, 20 death-row prisoners have been executed:

Following the devastating attack on Peshawar's Army Public School on December 16, 2014, the military and political leadership had formed NAP to counter terrorism.

Establishment of military courts in the country and lifting of a long-held moratorium on the death penalty have been a few of the major developments in this regard, along with the formation of multiple committees to deal with the many dimensions of the security threat.

Seems good work. Once you have progressive policies, level of education of common people must improve. It will take some time but will happen.

Good thing is your media is one of more strong body. Sometime I am envy of Dawn being Pak newspaper.

Once we become too much business dependent on each other, we can resolve Kashmir too. May be we can open border to allow citizens to move freely. Internally they can govern themselves.

Wishing you progress, peace

And the man who openly supported Taliban, and whose madrassah students released a video in support of ISIS, walks free in the streets of Islamabad. Abdul Aziz of Lal Masjid continues to spread hate and terror, and there is no one stopping him.

That's now the iron hand of the Government of Pakistan -NS, putting a firm grip over the endemic cultural lawlessness of many decades.

Its an appreciable endeavor and befitting tribute to the innocent blood of Peshawar victims. It comes out of the reflection of pledge, made by All Party Conference to deal with the malaise of terrorism, within.

It will bring chill effect.

A right decision to eradicate terror. However, labeling of terrorists (good and bad) will not be useful in long run for Pakistan itself.

Most of them are innocent and i am sure it's a great income way for Police departments to pick up any citizens, torture him and force him to pay else will put you in jail for life and blame you for terrorisim case.

This won't make satuation any better, will even make it worst for normal Pakistani citizens.

"Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has asked provincial governments to implement NAP in its letter and spirit in order to eradicate terrorism from the country".

It is my earnest request to the public and the politicians to please explain or clarify what does this statement or order from the Prime Minister Nawaz Shariff imply, mean, convey and intend?

Does it mean that Good Governance all around Pakistan was not implementing Laws of the Land in Letter and Spirit resulting in introducing National Action Plan?

                                                               OR

Does it mean just implement NAP in Letter and Spirit and overlook or ignore all other Laws of the Land? OR Use the NAP indiscriminately at whims and fancies or as the Administration Wish, Will, Want and Desire? OR Does it mean that various Operations so far carried out by this very Government has proved to be a total failure?

Attack on terrorism is a good starting point and has the backing of all patriotic Pakistanis. But the nation wants this list to be substantially expanded to include tax evasion, theft from the state, transfer of money into foreign bank accounts, an end to feudalism, an independent judiciary and so on and so forth. This PM and all future ones need to put the country's interest before their own. Pakistan will be a much better country.

Also 1000s of people in Karachi are being killed - by MQM and PPP and other political parties. What about these terrorists - they are as bad as Some Pakistan based Taliban. Can you please hand these murderers in Karachi along with the other terrorist!

@Agha Ata Looks like you dont understand. Out of these suspects not all will be guilty. Some will be mistaken or innocent too. Pakistan is doing an excellent job to eliminate terrorists and its supporters such as hate speakers. I dont understand why most Indians dont want to see better Pakistan. Looks like most Indians on Dawn news are only here to hear the suffering part of news and get relieved from It. InshaAllah Pakistan will overcome this problem and already is stronger and will become even stronger and cleaner from Terrorism.
