VEHARI: Thirteen schoolchildren were injured in an accident on Vehari-Burewala Road, about 30 kilometres from here, on Wednesday.

A van carrying children from Chak 543-EB to school collided head-on with a car near Mian Channu.

The school van overturned as a result of which 13 children were injured and admitted to a hospital in Burewala.

They included Hamna, Hamad, Hasan, Arbaz, Shehroz, Ahmad, Daud, Farwa, Usman and Asghar.

The van driver, Amjad Ali, was admitted to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital in a critical condition.

According to ASI Nadeem of the Burewala Saddar police, the accident occurred owing to rash driving by the car driver.

The parents of the children refused to lodge an FIR against the driver.

The hospital staff said all the children were out of danger and some of them were discharged after first aid.

PROTEST: The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf’s Vehari chapter on Wednesday protested against petrol shortage in parts of Punjab.

Mehr Shabbir Sayal, the PTI tehsil president, and Advocate Lubna Nazli, women’s wing president, led the protest in front of the PTI office.

The participants raised slogans against the government for its negligence and demanded that the prime minister quit.
