PESHAWAR: At least seven suspected militants have been killed while four others were injured in a US drone strike near the Pak-Afghan border in South Waziristan Agency.

Two of the dead militants are reported to be of Uzbek origin.

Intelligence sources say that the US drone fired two missiles on a compound in Wacha Dara area of Liddah Tehsil.

The Wacha Dara area is located near the Pak-Afghan border between Makeen and Shawal.

South Waziristan is among Pakistan’s seven tribal districts near the Afghan border which are rife with homegrown insurgents and are alleged to be strongholds of Taliban and Al Qaeda operatives, among others.

Drone attacks are widely unpopular across Pakistan and according to a survey conducted in June last year, 66 per cent of the country's citizens oppose these strikes.
