Wagah blast 'mastermind', two others killed in Lahore

LAHORE: The alleged Lahore chief of Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) who was also said to be the mastermind of November 2014's Wagah bombing was killed along with two associates in the provincial capital's Burki Road area, sources in law enforcement and intelligence agencies said early Saturday.

Intelligence agencies had been on a hunt for Roohullah alias Asadullah, the alleged mastermind of the Wagah attack since the Nov 2 bombing that killed at least 60 people.

Law enforcement officials told Dawn that a joint raid was carried out at a house located on Burki road on Lahore's outskirts on a tip-off regarding the TTP commander's presence.

Police officials said their raiding party came under gunfire upon entering the neighbourhood. Asadullah and his two accomplices opened fire on the raiding party and police fired back in retaliation. The exchange lasted for at least half an hour.

Several blasts were also heard during the exchange of fire. After the firing subsided, policemen entered the premises and recovered bodies of the three alleged militants.

Police claimed that all three killed hailed from Bajaur and belonged to TTP's Mullah Fazlullah group and shifted the bodies to a morgue.

A huge quantity of arms, explosives, suicide vests, detonators, militant literature and other equipment was recovered during a search of the house.

Three suspects killed, they were TTP and mastermind of Wagah blast. Police killed them and all policemen were safe and sound. Thats very "impressive". Who knows the identity of the killed and will there be an independent verification. Police statements always have holes and hard to believe.

huge quantity of vests explosives etc were discovered. this is the security mister CM! crack upon cracks and bribery takers and sympathizers enable this level / quantity of illegal arms to be present in a full fledged metros. the entire nation is cracked its way worse then being given impression

I wonder who are the suicide bombers? and what motivates them to take their life at so early age as 18 years and less? Is it just a bunch of white washed minds who believe their teachers who have misled them or the teachers them self are not knowing the real meaning of what they end up teaching, either ways the end result is deadly and another soul lost. Or is it the utter sense of hopelessness from life in those young people either due to injustice done to them or their families either by drone strikes or armies indiscriminate targeting of militants resulting in such collateral losses thus prompting them to take counter revenge. Or is is just plain crime that thrills them? Whatever the reason, some one needs to take courage to dig into this and make the to be suicide bombers understand that the lives they are planing to take are just like theirs and that they have equal dreams and faith as themselves. May be just maybe understanding the real problem may be better than taking revenge and counter revenge. This cycle must stop.

I seriously believe even after this bombing will continue.. Because it doesn't make sense by killing peon you will end the gang. You need to end the king pin. Here king pins are like let, ttp ideology unless that is not cleared some or the other will join the gang and will continue this menace.

First of all, Punjab and Lahore should be thoroughly checked and cleaned from these infests. Then, the country would be safe and peaceful. I have always found(read) majority of these elements taking shelter within Punjab. Can someone explain as to why these elements continuously get nurtured and would always come out from Punjab?

Every time they kill TTP, they recovered suicide jackets and explosives. How many more terrorist are hiding in Lahore and hiding suicide jackets and explosives. This show incompetency of provisional government. Over the years government done nothing in Punjab to address this.
