GUJRAT: Law-enforcement agencies have categorised 2,500 educational institutions in the district for security arrangements before the resumption of the academic activities on Jan 12.

Sixteen public schools and colleges which are being run by the Rangers or having co-education and are located close to the sensitive installations of the district have been included in the A+ category whereas 134 schools and colleges have been declared ‘A category institutions’. Another 1,300 institutions will fall in B category.

A police official told Dawn that security arrangements for 1,100 private educational institutions had been proposed and the management of these institutions asked to make foolproof arrangements.

The Military College, Jhelum, located along GT Road, the University of Gujrat, the army public schools at Kharian and Jalalpur Jattan cantonments are among the A+ category institutions.

The district government has directed EDO (Education) Kashif Tahir to prepare the estimate of the funds required for the security arrangements.

DPO Rai Ijaz Ahmad told Dawn that he had withdrawn dozens of cops from the security duty of some local political as well as religious figures and places so that the shortage could be overcome.

The district administration has also launched a campaign against graffiti and display of banners carrying any kind of hate material.
