KARAK: The district livestock department has started a special campaign to carry out fumigation and vaccination of cattle against various diseases, including the Congo virus. It is also providing medicines to farmers for treatment of the ailing animals.

Local livestock officials said on Monday that the vaccination drive was launched after they received scores of complaints from the farmers of different parts regarding various kinds of diseases afflicting their animals. Following the complaints, the livestock officials visited the areas, including Isak Chountra, Sarat Khel, Ghundi Mir Khan Khel, Nari Panos and Sorati Kala, and met the farmers to get firsthand information about the kinds of diseases.

The officials said that after thorough survey of the diseases, including Congo, the department decided to start a special campaign to first fumigate the villages and then vaccinate the livestock, particularly in the weekly animal markets across the district.

The officials said that they were also educating farmers on how to give medicines to animals.

They added that the department had arranged camps in weekly fares for vaccination of livestock across the district. They said that farmers in great numbers were visiting the camps to get advice and medicines for treatment of the diseased animals.
