Whither Pakistan?

Published December 22, 2014

THE originator of the term Pakistan, Chaudhry Rehmat Ali, says: “I observed Chillahs and prayed for Allah’s guidance. I carried on till, at last, in His dispensation Allah showed me the light, and led me to the name ‘Pakistan’ and to the Pak Plan ...’

Here he describes the magnitude of sacredness. That’s why, it literally means the land of Paks — the spiritually pure and clean — a place with lasting peace; a place where life enjoys complete security with no threat to existence.

After the Peshawer tragedy, it seems as if we have failed to maintain the professed definition of our ‘Pakistan’. I am afraid we are moving away from the Pakistan idea.
