LAHORE: Police on Sunday launched a search operation in different parts of the city and arrested 30 suspects.

The Lahore police have been on high alert in the wake of executions of terrorism convicts in Punjab. The top hierarchy of the Punjab Police had been directed by the federal government to intensify patrolling and launch search operations throughout the province to deter suspected activities.

“We have taken some 30 suspects into custody from Green Town for not having identification papers. Most of them are Afghans,” Green Town Station House Officer Muhammad Sharif told Dawn. “The operation is underway and the suspects are being interrogated,” he added.

SECURITY: Lahore police set up pickets throughout the provincial capital and enhanced security of main roads and markets.

Police checked suspects and vehicles and reportedly arrested dozens of people who failed to produce identification proof. They also seized illegal weapons, drugs and impounded 1,549 vehicles and 2,541 motorbikes from the suspects.
