KARACHI: Resumption of power supply which had remained suspended for more than 10 hours in Karachi and other areas of Sindh and Balochistan went underway at noon Sunday, according to a spokesperson of K-Electric.

A majority of Sindh had plunged into darkness early Sunday due to a major electrical breakdown.

Electricity transmission from the national grid to Karachi was abruptly suspended causing a power shutdown in Nazimabad, Defence, Sharea Faisal, Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Nursery, PECHS, Shah Faisal, New Karachi, Clifton, Landhi, Korangi and other areas of the provincial capital city.

The breakdown also affected several other areas of Sindh and Balochistan as well.

A K-Electric spokesman had said the breakdown was caused due to a technical fault in one of the high voltage transmission lines supplying electricity to Karachi from the national grid.

He further said that the 500kv transmission line had tripped due to humidity and fog. He said the repair work would take hours.

Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan had taken notice of the breakdown and ordered relevant officials to ensure resumption of electricity supply to the city as soon as possible.
