KARACHI: The annual elections of the Karachi and Malir bar associations for the year 2015 will be held on Saturday (today).
A KBA official said that 5,475 eligible voters would vote to elect their 17-member body comprising six office-bearers and 11 managing committee members.
The legal proceedings would remain suspended at the city courts on Saturday as undertrial prisoners would not be brought to the courts because of the elections.
Mahmoodul Hasan and Naeem Qureshi are vying for for the post of president, while Haq Nawaz Talpur, Manzoor Ahmed and Syed Farhat Hussain are in the run for the slot of general secretary.
Six candidates are contesting for the office of vice president, five for joint secretary, four for treasurer and three for the post of librarian. There are 52 candidates for 11 seats of the managing committee.
The Malir Bar Association has around 500 eligible voters and they would elect six office-bearers on Saturday.
Eleven members for the managing committee have already been elected unopposed.
The incumbent Malir Bar president Ijaz Bangish, Syed Ahmed Shah and Rab Nawaz Niazi are in the run for the top slot of president. Lutfullah Seelro, Abdul Hafeez Baloch, Amir Mangi and Haji Khan Mashori are contesting for general secretary. Four candidates are contesting for the position of vice president, two for joint secretary, three for treasurer and two for the post of librarian.
The polling will commence from 9am and would continue till 5pm with a lunch and prayer break i.e. from 1pm to 2pm.
The district and sessions judges Ahmed Saba and Farooq Ali Channa are the chief election commissioners for the KBA and MBA elections, respectively.
