RAWALPINDI: The Ant-Narcotics Force claimed to have foiled an attempt of smuggling of 2.4 tons of narcotics and arrested nine suspects.
According to a press release, the ANF recovered 2,372kg of opium from the mountain cracks of Killi Pihari Sin in Batore tehsil of Pishin district. It was stuffed in 80 packets.
The consignment was to be delivered to narcotics smugglers for onward transfer to some foreign destination via Karachi through the RCD Highway.
The ANF team arrested one Abdul Sattar Arain, a resident of Lahore, from the Jinnah International Airport Karachi and recovered 920gm amphetamine (ice) concealed in embroidered shirts and other hosiery stuff. The accused flew into Karachi from Lahore and intended to fly out to Bangkok via Colombo.
They intercepted another passenger, Muhammad Arshad, a resident of Sheikhupura, at the Karachi airport who confessed to ingesting heroin-filled capsules. The man was boarding a flight for Colombo.
The ANF team detained another suspected passenger, Muhammad Taj, a resident of Kurram Agency, from the Benazir International Airport Islamabad and he too confessed to gulping down heroin-filled capsules. He was destined for Dubai but landed at a Rawalpindi hospital for the recovery of capsules.
The force nabbed Naik Daraz Khan of Islamabad and Mehboob-ur-Rehman of Peshawar and recovered 7gm cocaine after intercepting them while they were riding a motorbike in Rawalpindi.
The ANF team of Peshawar intercepted a Suzuki Bolan near Bilawal Marriage Hall in Haripur and claimed 5kg of Charas concealed in the vehicle. They arrested suspects Aamir Zia and On investigation, the ANF picked up their accomplice Muhammad Amin of Peshawar and recovered 11kg of Charas from him. The man was caught near Hazara Toyota Workshop in Haripur while riding a motorcycle. He was reportedly the main source of drug supply. The operation resulted in the recovery of total 16kg of Charas.
The ANF staff Lahore recovered 1.2kg of Charas from one Muhammad Irfan after raiding his house in Umar Farooq Bazaar near Ghanta Ghar in Multan.
Cases have been registered at respective ANF police stations.
