PCB announces T20, ODI squads against NZ

LAHORE: Following its recommendation by the six-member selection committee headed by former captain Moin Khan, Chairman PCB Shaharyar M Khan has approved 14 and 16-member squads for the two T20 and the first two One Day Internationals (ODI) against New Zealand respectively.
The two T20s are scheduled for Dec 4 and 5 in Dubai, followed by the ODI series, with the first of the two contests slated for Dec. 8 at Dubai and the second on Dec 12 at Sharjah.
“Both the squads are well-balanced, with a decent blend of in-form batsmen and good all-rounders, with the bowling attack a potent mix of pace and spin combinations,” said chief selector Moin Khan.
“This is our final opportunity to test all our potential players before the ICC World Cup 2015. That is why we have tried to induct all our fit players in contention for a slot. This is also pretty much the last opportunity for the players to perform and cement their places in the World Cup squad,” said Khan.
“Quite a few players have been included either after returning from injury or on the basis of current form.
“In the ODI squad, Younis Khan has been recalled for the ODI squad due to his sparkling form. Similarly, Sarfraz Ahmed is featuring in a T20I for the first time. Young and promising Haris Sohail is also part of both squads, while Sohaib Maqsood was not considered on fitness grounds,” said the chief selector.
“Among our pace bowlers, Wahab Riaz and Umar Gul are making comebacks from injury to make the pace attack more potent,” he said.
Umar Gul has also been recalled to Pakistan's squad for the limited over series after struggling with a knee problem since last year.

I second that " Fawad Alam " is a go getter and consistency is his forte ...
I guess there is a quota for Karachi in the team and by taking Sarfraz in the team that fulfills it ...

@Farooq I'm a fawad alam fan because he is a gritty player but if I'm honest I don't think his style of batting is suited to the southern hemisphere therefore probably the right decision.
And before people start questioning Umar Akmal and Younus khans inclusion, Umar Akmal has a pretty good technique against quick bowling and will be handy in the work cup as a finisher. Younus khans experience will also be valuable in the worldcup as most Pakistani batsmen have little or no experience of playing New Zealand/ Australia.
Once shoaib maqsood and junaid khan are back from injuries I think it's a decent and the right squad for the World Cup albeit it won't be good enough to win the tournament. But unfortunately it's our best bet!

PCB should come out of this Punjab-Karachi political mania and should start supporting players on merit. PCB selectors does not even know that a person who holds a team at 5 position Fawad Alam is the only person who is making team stable at this moment. And he is out again from squad. Stupid decision by PCB. Really really stupid.

Axe has fallen on poor Fawad Alam agaiin. Nasir Jamshed n Umer Akmal failed to deliver in recent domestic competition. Was their poor form is reason for selections? When will selectors wake up. They should have finalized WC2015 team by now. Hope we dont see another WC debacle.

Golden opportunity for the players to show their performance tremendously before the World Cup., we want to see extra ordinary performances from each player; show positive results. Whoever will perform in this series, they we will be part of the World Cup., so be productive, result oriented and take action immediately to improve your weakness, practice practice practice. Show consistence positive results.

This is so unfair.....Fawad Alam played a wonderful cricket through out 2014 after his comeback, but he is now dropped. This is so unfair..........on what basis Nasir Jamshed, Umar Gul, Bilawal Bhatti are in the squad......Complete failures likes Shahid Afridi and Sohail Tanvir are in the team.....but the second highest run scorers of 2014 is out of squad.............pathetic.....With this unfair behavior, Pakistan has already loose last test,will going to loose all ODIs and T20s and finally World Cup. Nothing can be achieved with unfair means.....

I have read one article in Dawn some days back which said that " the selection of Sohail Tanvir needs to be investigated". Now I am really starting to believe that something is really fishy about his inclusion. Why he keeps getting selected.

Fawad Alam is good but unfortunately no one has ever told him that the inner circle on the field is never considered as a boundry. The poor chap can hardly make the ball cross inner circle even with his full power. His actual strength is that he is a Karachiite and a huge number of people wants him in the playimg eleven just for the sake of quota. Bitter truth.

Totally injustice for Fawad Alam. Selectors are spoiling the career of a genuine test as well as a one day cricketer. Nasir Jamshed does not deserve a place. I am following him. He has scored only against UAE and failed against almost every other team...even at domestic circuit, whereas, Fawad has scored against international teams. So bad

Can't believe and understand that Fawad Alam is dropped. Very unfortunate for him and for the team. Such a good and responsible player he is. He did everything right and yet ignored. Must not have the right people pushing his cause within PCB. Same old story. Very Sad.

Very strange that Fawad Alam is dropped again... Looks like he has to score fifty or more in every innings he plays, or he will be out of the team in next series.
Interestingly at an average of 45.25 odi runs per inning which is the highest in all selected batsman, he is still not selected. No other batsman in our team has an average in 40s except Misbah at 43 runs.
Can someone explain what's going in PCB selection committee????

@Snoopy LOL. You brought a good point. I guess Mr. Ilyas has been less influential these days. However, I am shocked of no return for Shoaib Malik. It has been a few series and I thought he'd make his way back in by now. Khawaja Asif must not be as influential either these days with PCB.

Ha Ha Sohail Tanvir is Back again.He is also going to be running the show for the Bowlers Training and selections.and He is also the Chairman of the Academy.
So,How is it that He gets His way,even after being a complete Failure for 12 years?

@REVERSESWEEP No Sir. Fawad Alam is not responsible for all those defeats. He is only RESPONSIBLE for those defeats in which he plays. Limited overs cricket demands that all eleven of the players should be able to Hit at the time of the need. Fawad has made us lost a lot of matches just because he can hit a boundary.

Fawad Alam who scored with an avg of 77 runs per odi inning this year again left out. So for selection surety good performance is not a requirement???
Fawad is the nucleus in our lower middle order batting. PCB selection committee please remember that in Australia we need to bat for all 50 overs with DECENT AVG. WC ODI squad needs to be build around these players. Ahmad Shahzad, Sarfraz Ahamad, Fawad Alam, Misbaul Haq.

I am extremely heartbroken and disappointed by PCB's decision to drop Fawad Alam. It is extremely incomprehensible and unfair decision and was expecting more pragmatic/prudent decision making from Moin Khan. Other cricketing countries groom their youngsters and turn them into stars. In Pakistan, we destroy their careers instead of providing them support and guidance. Very sad state of affairs.
Few stats about Fawad Alam:
* Second highest ODI average for a Pakistani batsman and 16th highest across all batsmen(Played more than 20 matches) 10 Zaheer Abbas 47.62 16 Fawad Alam 45.14 26 Misbah ul Haq 43.07
* Second highest run scorer in 2014 ODI Amhad Shahzad 11 Matches 434 Runs Fawad Alam 8 Matches 345 Runs
I hope Shaharyar Khan (who praised Fawad just a few months ago) will look into this and be fair to this deserving pakistani cricketer
