BAHAWALPUR: Religious scholar Maulana Siraj Ahmed Deenpuri passed away after protracted illness at Deenpur Sharif near Khanpur on Wednesday. He was about 90.

The Maulana had been bed-ridden for the last many years. He remained adviser on religious affairs to the late Benazir Bhutto during her first stint as prime minister.

Funeral prayers would be offered at Deenpur Sharif near Khanpur on Thursday (today).

KILLED: A man was killed while his pillion was injured in an accident near Small Industries Estate on Wednesday.

The Saddar police said Javed Iqbal was run over and killed by a bus while Asif, the pillion rider, was injured and was shifted to the Bahawal Victoria Hospital (BVH) in a critical condition. The Saddar police said they arrested the bus driver.
