KARACHI: A Muttahida Qaumi Movement leader has criticised Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah for not giving to the people of urban areas their due share while granting government jobs on a rural-urban quota basis.

Senator Babar Ghori of the MQM wrote a letter to the chief minister stating that Mr Shah had written a letter to the federal government on Nov 24 in which he had demanded “due share of Sindh for jobs in the federal government” as per the proportion of population in accordance with the Constitution.

He said that it would have been much better if Mr Shah had adopted the same principle while granting jobs in the Sindh government.

“That because due share has not been given to the residents of the urban Sindh, it is most unfortunately stated that not only the principles of our Constitution have been violated but the rights of the people of Sindh have been compromised,” he stated in the letter, adding: “Please note you are the chief minister of Sindh and regrettably, you have by your actions confined yourself to bring the chief minister of Pakistan Peoples Party and it is for this reason that the people of urban Sindh have voiced their demand of a separate administrative unit.”

The MQM senator went on to say that the bureaucracy in Sindh had been “plagued with corruption and nepotism” and bad governance had become the hallmark of Mr Shah’s government because of the Sindh government’s “myopic and self-serving decisions”.

He asked the chief minister to give due share and representation to all residents of Sindh in government jobs.

Copies of the letter were also sent to the prime minister, the chief justice, the national assembly speaker and the senate chairman, the army chief and the Sindh governor.
