ISLAMABAD: The Presidency said on Sunday that it had not received any summary from the government for promulgation of an ordinance to restrain the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) from holding its public meeting at D-Chowk on Nov 30.

“We have not yet received any summary from the government in this regard,” a presidential spokesman told Dawn. The ordinance would be promulgated by the president if the summary was received, he added.

Media reports said the government was considering enacting a law to ban demonstrations in `red zone’ or at D-Chowk in front of the Parliament House where the PTI has been staging a sit-in for more than 100 days.

No plan to ban public meetings at D-Chowk: govt

PTI Chairman Imran Khan has been saying for the past couple of weeks that the Nov 30 rally will prove to be a game changer and all barricades placed by the government to stop his supporters from reaching D-Chowk will be removed.

Another government spokesman rejected reports that an ordinance was under consideration to stop the PTI from holding its rally at D-Chowk and said existing laws were sufficient to ensure foolproof security in the capital.
