Australia asks Indian company to review thrashing in Pakistan Tests: report

Australia has been engaging an Indian company to conduct a thorough review of its team's thrashing against Pakistan to find a solution for the country's woes in Asia, a report published by The Sydney Morning Herald said.
A Chennai-based Indian analysis firm, Cricket 21, which employs former first-class Indian cricketers, has been assigned to sort out Australia's problems in sub-continent conditions. Australia has lost 10 of their past 15 Tests in the sub-continent.
The report said that there had been calls led by former Test captain and Cricket Australia (CA) Director Allan Border for an Argus-style review into issues faced by Australia in Asia.

This prompted CA high performance chief Pat Howard to turn to India, which will also be taking on Australia for four Tests starting next month.
Cricket 21 regularly provide series reviews to CA and also provided an analysis on Yasir Shah and Zulfiqar Babar before the start of Pakistan-Australia Tests, the report said, adding that the Australian side, however, failed to make the most out of it.
Sunny Kaliyar, a former fast bowler and Cricket 21 employee, has been known as one of the CA's performance analysts.

"The tour reviews not only summarise what went wrong in UAE, but more importantly provide feedback on what they can do better in future visits to the sub-continent," the report quoted Kaliyar as saying.
"It's more about cricketing background. It's not just guys who are behind computers," Kaliyar said. "It's guys who have actually played cricket."

Interesting Approach...... It is natural for Teams like England, SA, Australia & NZ to Struggle in Sub Continent Conditions and Vice Verse.... But I like the approach the Australians take towards building a strong team for Sub Continent Conditions, Need to wait and watch how the Sub Continent teams will perform in the 2015 WC,
In a Separate incident, Indian Hockey Team wins a series down under by beating the Aussies 3-1 in a 4 match series held in Perth.... This was a much bigger win than any cricket victory considering Hockey to be our National Game
I guess it is Time for Sub Continent Teams to make a Come Back..... I also Wish Pakistani Hockey team good luck, Together, let us bring back the Hockey Glory back to Sub Continent .... Enough of the Western Hegemony in our National Game :)

Cricket 21 is a private firm and not part of BCCI. Unless BCCI gives them a contract like Cricket Australia....why would they try and analyse Team India's game?

On similar grounds Pakistan should establish fast bowling training and analysis company. They can hire many of their retired greats like Wasim, Aquib Jawed, Waqar, Shoaib Akthar etc.

@Ajamal India has won Champions trophy in England where Pakistan did NOT win a single game, , A world cup in England ,T20 World Cup in South Africa, U19 World cup in Australia, 3 way series in West Indies, thrashed Zimbabwe in Harare 5-0. All this in the past few years! Dont bother comparing to teams that cant beat Zimbabwe or SL or Afghanistan

As per the report Cricket 21 had already updated the Australian batsmen on Zulfiqar and Yasir. Still the batsmen failed. How should we read into it. Such analysis is useless? Why is Cricket 21 being given the contract again to review the series failure? Too many questions on this new development.
However best of luck to Cricket Australia in figuring it out. I believe Ian Chappel already told them the problem. They need more spinners in the domestic circuit to help their batsmen develop the technique to plan spin. But still they can hire a company to tell them the same. It sounds much more professional then listening to your own cricket legends.

@Mahen, Pakistan won T20 WC in England (where i don't think Indian won a single game in second round), WC in down under, a first series win against South Africa in SA. I can't remember us losing to Bangladesh in last 15 long years while your team have lost against them quite few times. Think before trolling. :)

It is not difficult to understand Australia's woes. They try to play test cricket in one-day style - "because they want to be aggressive and be seen to be aggressive". This is really childish. You should bat (and bowl) given the conditions and the strengths and weaknesses of the batsmen (and bowlers). You do not bring a hard-hitting one day batsman to the most important test batting position of 3, for a start. Remember a test match is for 5 days (and even this is not often enough) - and now there is a clue! You can't hit out of trouble - you have to fight it out. I shall not charge Australian Cricket Board for this excellent, but obvious, advice.

Pakistan simply outclassed Australia, is really hard to digest for CA as well as Aussie team. Be brave to accept the reality and admit that Pakistan were by far the better team throughout test series, otherwise atleast 1 session would have gone Aussies way.

I think problem with many Pakistanis here is not that Australians have give this contract but they have given it to Indian Company. Jealousy will not take you anywhere. Better concentrate on your team and leave others to worry about theirs. Australia has dominated the world cricket in both the forms for almost 2 decades in all the parts of the world and they are accepting that they got defeated by Pakistan convincingly. That's the most important step. That's the professionalism and acceptance of failure that will bring them back to #1 in the world cricket soon.

@Bhargav I believe it will not be possible until we give as much importance to hockey as we give to cricket. Secondly we will have to play more among ourselves to be ready to meet European Challenge. It would be nice if we have a club/state/etc level hockey championship where teams from around South Asia play.

Obviously they have lot of money to throw away now that they are part of big 3. Transfer pricing it is!
So this analysis company from India, Cricket 21 must be damn good....why does it not help BCCI when they play in England and Australia!! BCCI prefers to rely on Duncan F.
I am all fpr analysis.....but it is obvious what went wrong......their bowlers were in effective and did not have a balanced attack that put pressure on batsmen. Compare this to their previous matches in sub continent.

Pakistan totally outclassed Aussies. Their batsman neves played like this in last 25 year! It was again Pakistan known terrain the middleeast where they have everything in their favor and have beaten India too for too long suring early 90's..Pakistan should have their HQ in Sharjah. Story will be different if they have to travel to Australia and play 4 tests...same applies for Indian team...

This is the right approach as they are struggling in sub continent so they are doing diagnosis.India and other sub continent teams are struggling on fast pitches in all over world so they should learn from Australia and try to improve their game outside of subcontinent.But i have seen that after got defeated outside subcontinent Indian team wait for their turn when Australia and other teams come to India then they would get chance to improve their records instead of that they should try to defeat them on their home country that is real test.

I don't understand why Australia is wasting money on such a simple matter. If they had asked me I would have given explained them so that they would improve. Let me explain to all those cricket lovers here. Well, all a batsman has to do is hit the ball to the fence which will fetch him 4 runs. Still better if he lofts the ball over the boundary line which earns him more runs i.e. 6. Moreover, when they bawl they must ensure that the ball hits the stump.Of course, the opposite team batsman would be disappointed with this. And about the fieldsmen role, what to say, just don't allow the ball to hit the ground in case the batsman happens to hit it. Just catch it. See! It is so simple!
