India test-fires nuclear capable strategic ballistic missile

India test-fired on Sunday a nuclear-capable strategic ballistic missile, Agni-II, the Times of Inida (TOI) reported.
According to the Indian publication, the missile has a range of over 2,000 kilometres and has been inducted into the Indian army's strategic forces arsenal for nuclear deterrence.
TOI says the medium-range missile is equipped with an advanced high-accuracy navigation system and guided by a state-of-the-art command and control system which is powered by a solid rocket propellant system.
The two-stage surface-to-surface missile's range could be increased to 3,000 kilometres by reducing its payload, the report said, adding that the missile could be fired from both rail and road mobile launchers.
The Agni-II ballistic missile would take only 15 minutes to be readied for firing. India has first successfully test-fired Agni-II prototype in 1999.

@Erik this was test for new propellent (solid propellent) built in-house and we failed couple of times before it was successful no body in the world would share technology of solid propellent in rockets/missiles so we built it in-house.

@kalim true we failed couple of time to get it right, try reading between the lines if you can we are now successful in building solid propellent systems that means we are now launch capable in 15min flat and also usel this technology to power GSLV rockets next 5-10 years we will have a space shuttle of our own try swallowing this. have you ever heard of Antrix if not google it its a commercial wing which makes money by putting telecommunication satellites for fraction of the cost thus making money what had been spent on the research.

Whenever there is news regarding weapons of mass destruction producred by India, all Indians get very excited and proud of weapons that will kill people in there thousands.

What would be great if India tried to focus on poverty and created a welfare state to help not just it's own people but felt proud to show rest of the world there achievement.

This was a routine not actual test. There was no press release of what parameters they tested. Pakistani friends, don't waste your time on commenting Indian missile technology, it was done and dusted, cryogenic engine and re-entry milestones were achieved while ago, other than improvements there is nothing in the world that India need to achieve in missile tech area. You can probably comment on India's anti missile defence systems and lazar tech researches because they are not there yet, still struggling to hit/stop missiles 100%. As usual just insult or make jokes about it in media continuously that motivates Indian's to perfect the technology otherwise they will become lazy.

The stated range of Agni II with full designed payload is 2000 to 2500 km with accuracy achievement, in geographic coordinate under self navigation and control system terms, as of now is - 30 meters. The present test firing is with advance navigation systems and accuracy data is yet to be released. ........ Jai Ho.

This money that is spent goes into the salaries of scientists and other employees, into the money paid to the suppliers, who in turn use this to pay for the salaries of Indian employees. Thus you see, all this money IS going to the pockets of Indians, and the income tax paid on that income and the tax paid on purchases goes back to the Govt.
