KARACHI: Mohammad Riaz rescued a draw for K-Electric against 10-man Pakistan Army with his late strike giving them a 1-1 draw against the Pakistan Premier Football League (PPFL) leaders on Thursday.

Winger Riaz struck four minutes before the end at the Jinnah Stadium in Islamabad against an Army side who had taken the lead through Sarfraz’s goal at the end of the first-half and were reduced to ten men when Zafarullah was sent off in the 69th.

The draw meant last year’s runners-up K-Electric are winless since their victory on the opening day of the season and have five points after five matches.

Army, meanwhile, moved four points clear at the top and have 18 points after eight matches with Pakistan Air Force (PAF) and Karachi Port Trust (KPT) at joint-second in the table.

Elsewhere, Wapda, fresh from their first victory of the season when they thrashed Baloch FC Quetta 6-0 in their last match, recorded their second consecutive win when they overcame Muslim FC 3-1.

All four goals came in the second half at Lahore’s Railways Stadium with Tahir giving Muslim FC the lead in the 57th.

Wasim levelled matters soon after when he scored six minutes later before Asif put Wapda in the lead in the 82nd.

Asim Mansoor’s strike deep into stoppage time sealed all three points for Wapda, taking their tally to 10 from seven matches — a point behind Muslim FC who have played nine games.

The concern is that if the government is thinking of cutting costs through the merger, we might even lose the functionality levels we currently have.
