ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Thursday took notice of drought in Sindh's Thar area and asked the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to file a report in this regard. Prime Minister Nawaz also advised the armed forces to supply food and medicines to the drought-affected areas.
More than 1,000 people, including children and women, have died in Thar due to the famine.
Earlier, a relief inspecting judge for Tharparkar, Mian Fayyaz Rabbani, had urged the government to pay attention to the ‘alarming situation’ in this district as the aggravating drought may claim more human lives.

Speaking to reporters during his visit to the Mithi Civil Hospital, Rabbani observed that thousands of people were starving while relief goods meant for them were being misappropriated on a large scale. he also said that the entire district lacked adequate healthcare facilities.
The relief judge said he had brought to the notice of the relevant authorities the misappropriation of relief goods worth millions of rupees and identified the culprits but no attention had been paid to the issue.
The officials caught red-handed and suspended was reinstated at the Mithi warehouse of relief goods, he had regretted.

The PM should have come hard on the Sindh Government on its non serious attitude towards the sufferings of people of Thar. However, he won't say a word to the Sindh Government because they both are on a mission to save their dynastic democracy. If NS says a word to Sindh Government, they'll blackmail him to support IK. These two parties have their own interests and don't give a penny about the common man. Pathetic state of affairs!!

Really bad state of affairs in our country. The disaster management departments should be pro active rather than reactive. They should act without Prime Minister's notice.
What Sindh government is doing in this regard? Can media highlight this issue as well or will it carry on giving the coverage to non issues? Bilawal Zardari of PPP is topic of the current affairs shows but they should also mention the mishandling of Thar drought by PPP government. MQM was part of government as well and they should not be spared of any criticism.

Why is there even a drought in the first place? How many people and domesticated animals are in Thar to begin with? Surely the rest of the country is producing enough food to provide the unfortunate in Thar.

It's a good procedure to take care of problems: take notice, ask for a report, form a committee to review the report, form a commission to make recommendations for action. That gives you enough time to complete your term. The next PM will blame the first to prove his innocence. Who can say "democracy" is not working?
Shame on the people of Pakistan for supporting such politicians. It will continue to happen, because the people are also like them.

- Cyclone Nilofer moved to Pakistan
- Thar hit by drought otherwise under rule of PML-N was about to be an Oasis, Thar Metro, Thar Aiport, Thar University, Thar Housing (better than Bahria Town), Thar Idustrial Estate and FDI of $1000 million was ready but these Dhranas created all above.

It is commendable and very good suggestion to enrich the land and improve the subsurface water table. Rather I`ll suggest a Covered Canal and its Tributaries to Save the Water from Evaporation during Summer Heat.
Govt. should take notice of it and get the feasibility report prepared for this Project.
InshaALLAH This Project will Bring greenery and prosperity in Thar.

The PM takes notice finally, after over 1000 die of hunger! And the Sindh CM refuses to acknowledge that anyone has died in Thar of hunger! While some officials are caught misappropriating supplies meant for the people of Thar, the Sindh government reinstates them with full honours and benefits! With leaders like these, we can only pray to Allah for His mercy! But we should also be thankful to our leaders for upholding democracy and promoting freedom--freedom to loot and plunder, rob and murder!
